Newton Forrest Gimblett Gravels Hawke's Bay NZ Syrah 2006

4 Star Rating
85/100 45
A joint venture between Gimblett Gravels Cornerstone vineyard owner, Bob Newton, and Marlborough winemaker, John Forrest. The grapes were hand-picked and fermented in a three-tonne open fermenter which allowed hand-plunging. The wine was matured in a mix of French (70%) and American (30%) oak barriques. Bright, fresh and peppery wine with tangy red fruit flavours and a firm structure of drying tannins. Strong oak stands out from the fruit at this stage but will no doubt integrated in time. Plenty of cellaring potential.
