Newton Forrest Gimblett Gravels Hawke's Bay NZ Merlot 2006

4 Star Rating
88/100 45
Dense, firm red with fresh cherry, plum, new leather, liquorice, anise and spicy oak flavours. The tannins are unusually firm and drying for a vintage that tended to produce softer and more accessible red wines from the Gimblett Gravels district. The tannins appear to have locked in some of the wine’s flavours - time is the key that will to release them within a year or two. Newton Forrest is a collaboration between Hawke’s Bay grapegrower, Newton, and Marlborough winemaker, Forrest.
