Wines made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon are a rarity in New Zealand. The grapes were hand-picked from the winery’s own vineyard in the heart of the Gimblett Gravels district and given a period of “cold soak” prior to fermentation to enhance fruit intensity. Dense and powerful wine with a deep, dark colour and brooding berry, liquorice, spice flavours. Although the wine is fairly closed the strong tannins are ripe and not at all hard. Very serious red with plenty of cellaring potential.
