Quite a rich and warming wine with sweet, ripe berry fruit encased in sweet oak that gives the wine a chocolate/mocha character. Mellow, silken textured and very accesible now but with some potential. The Merlot and the Cabernet Sauvignon come from the Gimblett Gravels, while a small amount of Cabernet Franc is sourced from the Te Mata district of Hawke’s Bay. Gimblett Gravels fruit is typically highly structured and yields ripe flavours at lower sugar levels when compared with the rest of Hawke’s Bay, while the Te Mata region typically gives the wine a softer and fleshier character.
